Terms & Conditions
Last updated: March 2025
1. About These Terms
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of danielariddle.com (the "Website") and any purchases you make through our direct store. Please read them carefully before placing an order.
The Website is operated by Daniel A. Riddle ("I", "me", "my"). By placing an order or using this Website, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the store.
These Terms should be read alongside my Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
2. Eligibility
To place an order you must be at least 18 years old (or have permission from a parent or guardian) and be resident in the United Kingdom. Direct sales are currently available to UK customers only; international visitors are directed to third-party retailers.
3. Products & Pricing
I sell the following types of products through this Website:
- Digital ebooks (EPUB format) — delivered via secure download link
- Physical books (paperback and hardback) — delivered by post to your UK address
All prices are displayed in pounds sterling (£) and are inclusive of any applicable VAT. I reserve the right to change prices at any time, but changes will not affect orders that have already been confirmed.
4. Placing an Order
When you submit an order through the checkout, you are making an offer to purchase the selected items. Your order is accepted and a binding contract formed when I send your order confirmation and download link (for digital products) or dispatch your order (for physical products).
I reserve the right to refuse or cancel any order for any reason, including but not limited to product availability, errors in pricing, or suspected fraud. If I cancel your order, you will receive a full refund.
5. Payment
Payment is processed securely through PayPal. You may pay using your PayPal account or a debit/credit card via PayPal's guest checkout. I do not store or have access to your payment card details.
All transactions are in pounds sterling (£). Your bank may apply currency conversion fees if your account is in a different currency.
6. Digital Products — Ebooks
6.1 Delivery
After successful payment, you will receive an email containing a secure, personalised download link. Download links are time-limited and may be used a reasonable number of times for personal use.
6.2 Digital Watermarking
All ebooks sold through this Website are digitally watermarked and personalised to the purchaser. This means your copy contains invisible identifying information linked to your purchase. This is a form of social DRM (Digital Rights Management) used to discourage unauthorised redistribution while allowing you to read your ebook on any compatible device without restrictive DRM software.
By purchasing a digital product, you acknowledge that your copy is uniquely identifiable and agree not to share, redistribute, upload, or otherwise make your copy available to others.
6.3 Licence
When you purchase an ebook, you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to read the content on your personal devices. You do not acquire ownership of the intellectual property. You may not:
- Copy, reproduce, or redistribute the file in any form
- Share, lend, rent, or resell the digital file
- Remove, alter, or circumvent any watermark or identifying information
- Upload the file to any file-sharing service, website, or public platform
- Use the content for any commercial purpose
6.4 Cancellation & Refunds for Digital Products
Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015, you have a 14-day right to cancel a purchase of digital content. However, by checking the acknowledgement box at checkout and proceeding with download, you expressly consent to the immediate supply of the digital content and acknowledge that you lose your right to cancel once the download begins.
Once you have downloaded or accessed a digital product, no refund can be issued. This is because the digital content has been supplied in full and cannot be returned.
If you have not yet downloaded or accessed the digital content, you may request a cancellation and refund within 14 days of purchase by contacting me at author@danielariddle.com.
If a digital product is faulty (e.g. corrupted file, missing pages), please contact me and I will provide a replacement or refund as required by consumer law.
7. Physical Products — Printed Books
7.1 Delivery
Physical books are dispatched to the UK delivery address provided at checkout. Delivery times are estimated and not guaranteed. I will provide tracking information where available.
Risk in the goods passes to you upon delivery. If your order arrives damaged, please contact me within 7 days with photographs of the damage.
7.2 Right to Cancel & Returns
Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you have a 14-day cooling-off period starting from the day you receive your physical order. During this period, you may cancel your purchase for any reason.
To exercise your right to cancel, please contact me at author@danielariddle.com with your order reference. You must return the book(s) within 14 days of notifying me of the cancellation.
7.3 Return Conditions
- Return postage: You are responsible for the cost of returning physical items to me. I recommend using a tracked delivery service, as I cannot be held responsible for items lost in return transit.
- Condition of returned goods: Books must be returned in the same condition as received. You may inspect the book as you would in a bookshop, but if the book shows signs of use, damage, markings, or wear beyond reasonable inspection, I may deduct an amount from your refund to reflect the diminished value of the goods, as permitted under consumer law.
- Refund processing: Once I receive the returned item(s) and confirm their condition, I will process your refund within 14 days. Refunds will be issued to your original payment method.
7.4 Faulty or Incorrect Items
If you receive a book that is faulty (e.g. misprinted, pages missing or significantly damaged in transit) or incorrect, please contact me within 30 days. I will arrange a replacement or full refund, including return postage costs, as required by the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
8. Promotional Offers & The Inner Circle
From time to time I may offer promotional discounts, promo codes, or membership benefits (such as the Inner Circle). These are subject to their own terms, may be withdrawn at any time, and cannot be used retrospectively or in conjunction with other offers unless expressly stated.
8.1 Inner Circle Membership
By joining the Inner Circle, you agree to these Terms. Inner Circle members may receive benefits including:
- A complimentary ebook (delivered digitally)
- A percentage discount on future purchases (UK only)
- Early access to new releases and exclusive content
These benefits are personal to the member and non-transferable.
8.2 Free Digital Content
Any complimentary ebooks provided through the Inner Circle are subject to the same terms as purchased digital products (see Section 6), including:
- Digital watermarking: free ebooks are digitally watermarked and personalised to you, just like purchased copies
- Licence terms: you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to read the content (see Section 6.3)
- Redistribution prohibited: you may not share, upload, or redistribute the file
The receipt of a free ebook does not entitle you to any refund, as no payment was made.
9. Intellectual Property
All content on this Website, including but not limited to text, images, book covers, character art, logos, and the underlying code, is owned by or licensed to Daniel A. Riddle and protected by copyright and intellectual property laws.
You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from any content on this Website without my prior written permission.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- I shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of this Website or any products purchased.
- My total liability for any claim relating to a purchase shall not exceed the amount you paid for that order.
- Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
11. Your Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete information when placing an order
- Keep your download links and account credentials secure
- Not use the Website for any unlawful purpose
- Respect the intellectual property rights in all products purchased
- Not attempt to circumvent, remove, or alter any digital watermarks or copy-protection measures
12. Privacy & Data Protection
Your personal information is handled in accordance with my Privacy Policy. By placing an order, you consent to the collection and use of your data as described therein, including the embedding of personalised identifiers in digital products for the purposes of copy protection.
13. Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Website shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.
14. Changes to These Terms
I may update these Terms from time to time. The most current version will always be available on this page with the updated date shown above. Continued use of the Website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Material changes will not affect orders already placed.
